Why Does There Have To Be So Many Holy Bible Translations In Modern Times?

This brief article will address in a simple way the question, “Why are there so many Bible translations?” The question is legitimate and many other questions emerge as a result of this one. So, let’s look at the question with some questions, okay?

What is a Bible translation? Properly understood, a true Bible translation is the process of converting the text of the original Greek manuscripts (and a little Aramaic) for the New Testament and Hebrew (and a little Chaldean) for the Old Testament into another language.

The language these New Testament scripts were written in were originally authored in Koine Greek. The Greek of the ordinary man as opposed to Classical Greek. The Hebrew of the Old Testament is still amazingly similar to the Hebrew of today. In a very real sense, the first writings were written in the common language of the people of their times.

The translating of Scripture has been done in several thousand different languages. Whole ministries exist to continue the process of Scripture translation until every tribe and tongue has the Bible, or least a part of it, in their own language.

Are all Bibles you see in a bookstore translations from original manuscripts? More correctly they are translations from a compilation of those manuscripts that exist in book form. An example of this for New Testament translation is the famous Textus Receptus. Greek scholars use these compilations in the work of New Testament translation just as Hebrew scholars use the Masoretic Text for the Old Testament.

It is important for you to understand that all Bibles in a bookstore are not exactly translations. Some are paraphrases. A paraphrase is where a scholar basically tries to put the Bible text into a similar meaning that may be more easily understood by a contemporary reader. Technically, this is called use of the dynamic equivalent. In other words, a chariot in Bible days might be seen as a car in our day. Lots of arguments have ensued over these issues between scholars.

Which translation is the best? Among translations some are more wooden (literal), while others may be a little more loose with the translation. Anyway, we will leave the debates to the scholars about which serves a greater purpose. Between strict loyalty to the laws of translating and the need for people to clearly understand there is a battlefield of argument. I say let’s just pursue reading and praying for understanding of whatever version of a translation we do read.

There are many different versions of the English translations of the Bible around today and most Bible readers have their favorite. Some are completely loyal to the King James Version (KJV) of 1611 while others choose the New Living Translation. I personally like the New King James Version and it is the one I also use most on the (online bible study) I make available for surfers. I like it because I grew up on the KJV and the New King James Version (NJKV) reads similarly but the antiquated words like “concupiscence” have been updated to words we can actually understand. I do want to clarify that when people argue about the KJV of 1611, it is really not the original KJV of 1611 they are reading. Reading it is like reading the Canterbury Tales. Besides, what about other language groups who do not speak English? To be so inflexible as to allow nothing but an English version of the Bible is a little short sighted in addition to being prideful. We should have respect for the Bible in all its forms.

My answer to the question, “What is the best Bible Translation?” is simply, “The one you can best understand and that draws your heart toward God.” Most translations are really legitimate.

Now back to the question that birthed the title of this article, “Why are there so many translations?” First, because there are so many different languages spoken on the planet. You would have to go back to Babel to try and undo this fact. Secondly, there are so many translations, because the Bible is an absolutely exhilarating and inspired book. It is amazing that the same verse of Scripture can produce so many different sermons and most of them good. Like to read sermons? (Free online bible study) are offered online to anyone at anytime. It’s part of my ministry as a pastor.

Yes, the Bible is an absolutely amazing book. Men have died to protect it, died to translate it, and died to deliver it to others who have never read it. Such a book cannot be left alone. Conversely, others have spent their lives trying to destroy it. It lives on and I encourage you to read it today. God Bless You!

Endometriosis Is A Disease That Is Uncurable But Treatable That Claims The Health Of Far Too Many Women Each Year

Endometriosis is a uncurable condition that afflicts far too many women. It is a very painful disease. The tissue that lines the uterus spreads and attaches to other areas outside of the uterus creating lesions. When a woman is diagnosed with endometriosis, the doctor will evaluate her age, symptoms and desire for pregnancy before determining a proper type of therapy individualized to her needs.

When endometriosis is suspected, patients are required to keep track of their symptoms, specificly any pelvic pain in relation to the menstrual cycle. During therapy, they are asked to describe their symptoms, locations of pain and if the pelvic pain worsens during menstruation. A series of routine pelvic examinations are necessary to diagnose the disease, assess the stage and check for abnormalities such as cysts or scars. Physical examination has its limitations. A pelvic exam alone will not pinpoint exactly what stage the disease is in, the degree of severity or the cause of pelvic pain. Other tests may be necessary to confirm endometriosis and the specific stage.

A number of treatment options exist for a patient with endometriosis, but the patient has to weigh the risks versus the benefits. Drugs such as GnRH Agonists and Danazol used to treat endo often induce chemical menopause. Some treatment methods involve an attempt to shrink endo lesions by preventing the ovulation process. The side effects may be severe with many of these drugs and recurrence of the symptoms soon after stopping of treatment is a real problem.

A doctor may recommend treating endo with surgical therapy that includes the surgical removal or destruction of growths. Medical therapy makes growths smaller and provides temporary relief. In some cases, a doctor may suggest a combination of surgical and medical therapy that is known as combination treatment. A conservative surgery is another treatment option to destroy endo and restore distorted anatomy. To surgically remove endometrial growths, a doctor will usually perform a procedure called a laparoscopy. During laparoscopy, a slender, light-transmitting tube is inserted into a woman’s abdomen through her navel. The laparoscope allows doctors to see the size and extent of endometrial growths and remove as many of them as possible.

Sometimes, it becomes necessary for a woman to opt for radical surgery, including removal of the uterus and ovaries, as well as removal of all endo growths. This is perhaps the most difficult decision that women with endometriosis face. Other treatment choices include simply treating the pain with painkillers. As endo symptoms often continue even after treatment, some women have found non- traditional means of alleviating symptoms including herbal remedies, aromatherapy, dietary modifications, vitamin supplements and relaxation techniques.

Staying Warm With Proper Cycling Clothing

Choosing the best clothing and gear for hybrid biking is almost as important as picking the best hybrid bike for your needs. If your rides are longer, you will need cold gear for the winter and warm gear for the summer. If you are looking for advice on cycling cold gear, you have come to the right place.

This year, we are having a fairly cold winter and it is important to dress warmly for your bike ride. The first thing to remember is that while you may be cold while standing still or walking briskly, the wind chill while riding at 10+ miles per hour can make you feel much colder. In order to stay warm, make sure to dress in layers!

Base Layer
The first and most neglected layer is the base layer. You can use a tshirt and/or thermal underwear for shorter rides in less cold weather but ideally, you want a breathable garment that wicks moisture away while keeping you insulated. The purpose of a wicking material is to take the sweat away from your body before you can feel the cold. Your body remains cool by sweating because you feel cooler when the sweat evaporates from your skin. This is counterproductive to cool weather riding because you do not want the sweat to evaporate from your skin and the wicking material in a quality base layer takes the moisture from your skin to prevent this from happening. There are many great products available, but I recommend high quality products like the Mountain Hardware and Under Armour.

Middle (Insulating) Layer and Shell (Wind Blocking) Layer

The middle layer basically provides you with insulation so that your body can retain its heat and you stay warm and the shell layer is typically breathable to let your body moisture evaporate but blocks wind and other elements that will make you feel colder. Think of a good shell as a one way valve: it keeps the wind from entering but lets the moisture out. Traditionally, the middle and shell layers were separate materials for example you would have a fleece middle layer and a nylon shell. Due to many recent advancements in material technology, there are many more garments that retain both insulating and wind blocking features and the net result is a much lighter jacket which is idea for hybrid bicycling where reducing weight is important.

Accessories
When bicycling in the cold, do not neglect your head, hands and feet because you lose a majority of your body’s heat from your head and your hands and feet are typically the first things to get cold because they are the farthest points on your body from your heart. With head gear, there are many great products that fit underneath of your helmet to lock in your heat and you may also want to consider a head wrap to cover your ears. Your gloves and socks should be layered similarly to your clothing and make sure to wear wool socks and not cotton socks since cotton absorbs moisture and will thus retain your sweat and make your feet feel colder.

For a great pair of gloves, I would recommend any windstopper fleece gloves. It took me a while to find gloves that actually keep my hands warm but these do the trick and are also great when in the cold but not on the bike.

Insomnia Treatments That Don’t Involve Drugs

Insomnia is a difficult disorder to have. It’s basically not being able to sleep, much less sleep well. If you are sleep deprived, you cannot function properly. insomnia causes your mental abilities to be severely compromised which means you can fall asleep on the job, or make fatal mistakes during the day.

For many years, doctors have been prescribing sleeping pills to help a person overcome insomnia. However, studies how that there are very bad side effects to taking sleeping pills, especially on a long term basis.

Recently, a new kind of insomnia treatment has been developed and is now being encouraged to help people suffering from insomnia. This is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT. In short layman’s terms, CBT attacks the mental, emotional and behavioral aspects of an individual.

If you start to change the way you think and act, you could very well stop being a victim of insomnia. Take for example, your manner of thinking. In many cases people suffering from insomnia actually get more sleep than they think or need. What the mind can do to change the way you sleep can work both ways. If you have a more positive approach to sleeping, it would help you get more shut eye – and you will wake up feeling refreshed instead of drained.

Sometimes, going to bed physically tired but mentally alert will keep you up for hours. You need to recognize what triggers your mind to keep racing and thinking – and then find ways to handle it so that it stops at a certain point. Take work, for instance, leave work at work. Mixing work with home life stresses not just you, but also the other people at work and in your home.

As for the behavioral part of the therapy, it targets certain lifestyle patterns that can affect your sleeping habits. This could be like drinking coffee after dinner or eating too much sugary deserts, to over-exercising right before sleeping.

Your CBT therapist will try to pinpoint what your sleep hygiene is, and see where you can make changes.

Sessions with a CBT therapist will usually is also called a sleep therapist. He will look at your lifestyle on multiple levels. In other words, he need to know how you think, what you do during the day, your diet and exercise program, and biofeedback, to name a few.

Working with a certified sleep therapist will give you more information about yourself. Sometimes, you might not be sleeping because you worry too much. Other times, it could be a physical disorder like substance abuse.

Being able to sleep well is part of the body’s way of recovering from the stress of everyday life, and so if you are suffering from insomnia and depending too much on sleeping pills, it’s about time you try something new. You never know, but this could probably be your best option right now.

5 Suggestions That You Can Take To Encourage Your Spiritual Leader

A staggering fact is that the average pastor says that they do not have a really close friend. In addition, a majority also say that have had a conflict with a parishoner in the last month. Sure, sometimes its the fault of the spiritual leader. But the fact is a spiritual leader is under a ton of stress and the demands of attempting to minister spiritually to a large number of people can have very negative effects. Hence, this article. I want to share five simple things that you can do to make your pastor’s day. I will use male references but no offense is attended, feel free to change the gender of my phrases.

1. Use Some Ink.
Pick up a pen, write encouraging note, card, or brief letter. An email can be used just as effectively and more easily. Sadly, Spiritual leaders receive negative and critical mail for too often. Your contact can be a huge “lift me up”. It will be a brick in the foundation of a strong relationship you can build. Don’t be insincere about it. Begin to see your pastor as a real person with real feelings and a real family. He is more than someone who answers your spiritual 911 calls. He has the same needs you do in life. I will occasionally place notes on my free online bible study site for pastors just to encourage them. They need it like everyone else.

2. Be a Surprise Depositor.
Deposit something tangible in your spiritual leader’s life. I remember on one occasion when a man in our congregation came to our home and asked that I bring him my dirty dress shirts. I was taken back but did it. Two days later he returned with them cleaned and pressed from the local cleaners. He said, “I also bought a couple of new shirts and put in with these. I just wanted to bless you.” Wow, did that send a powerful message to me about this man. He respected and loved my family. He did this about once a month for quite a season. What is one tangible thing you could do to bless your preacher? A gift card, a night for he and his wife at a nice restaurant, a $20 bill can all be refreshing water to his spirit and his spouse.

3. Spread the Positive
When others talk negatively, spread the positive you see about your pastor. Be a person who does not sow destructive rumors. Actually, you will find that you will reap positively from this attitude in your own life.

4. Thicken Him Up.
I don’t mean take him a pie every Tuesday. I am talking about not requiring that your minister spread himself too thin.

Appointments, visits, training and sermon preparation all take lots of time. One thing I do to try to help pastors is to post free online bible study that they can use to save them time. What can you and other congregants do to lighten his ministerial load? By spreading himself too thin, he will be more vulnerable to experience burn out and failure in ministry. Be proactive in protecting his family time, etc.

5. Talk to God about Him.
Last but certainly not least–Pray for him. Prayer will help you condition your own heart toward him in the right way and more importantly, I believe God responds to sincere prayer from a pure heart. If you have ought against him, forgive him. Don’t carry a grudge, it will break you down before its over with. Please consider these suggestions to encourage your pastor. Thanks– Eddie Lawrence of Sermon Seedbed.

Hybrid Biking: Which Type Is Best For Your Needs

If you are new to Hybrid biking or if you have been biking for years, it can still be difficult to decide which type of Hybrid bike is for you. But fear not, you have come to the right place for Hybrid bicycling advice!

There are many different lifestyle factors to consider. Do you plan on using the bike for traveling to work? For fitness and weight loss? For leisure? What is your current fitness level? Do you have any health problems? Do you have storage limitations either at home or at your destination? With this guide, you will be able to choose the best solution for your Hybrid biking needs.

Many different types of Hybrid bikes are available ranging from pure comfort bikes all the way down to semi-race ready touring bikes. Here are a range of hybrid bikes from the most comfortable to the most sporty:

Recumbent Bicycles
Recumbent bikes are interesting in that they allow the rider to sit in in a position where their legs are located in front of them instead of behind them unlike a conventional bicycle, where the legs are underneath the seat of the rider. Components can be shared with mountain, hybrid, or road bikes depending on use, although handlebars and steering systems are usually quite different. The unique seating position reduces the strain on the lower back as well as shoulders, wrists, and arms since the driver is not leaning on the handlebars to maintain balance.
Some also believe that the recumbent riding position, which allows the legs to be at about the same level as the heart, allows better stamina and faster riding in many riding situations. There are also safety benefits – the rider is close to the road and at less of a risk of incurring a serious fall injury. There are also a few negatives to riding a recumbent bike. While straight-aways, declines, and slight inclines are typically faster on a recumbent, steep hill climbs are more difficult, as is maintaining balance and start- and stop-riding is also difficult because it is sometimes difficult to place your feet when stopped.

Cruisers
Cruiser bicycles are the most comfortable amongst the commuter and hybrid bicycles. Their upright position is more natural and ideal for users with back pain and the saddle is wide and padded for longer rides. Also, the tires are thicker to help absorb bumps, cracks, and potholes on streets. Cruisers are ideal for areas with dedicated bike paths, lanes, and less busy streets and are perfect for relaxed beach communities. You will often see surfers at the beach riding on their cruisers with a surfboard hanging from their free hand. They are the easiest to operate since they are single speed and have coaster brakes instead of hand grip brakes. You most likely had coaster brakes on your first bike as a child – you just pedal backwards to stop.

Folding Bicycles
Folding bicycles are ideal for city commuting since they offer the size and all of the features of a regular sized bike in a collapsible package. Once you get to your destination, you can lower the handlebars and saddle, fold it in half and lock the halves together and you have a lightweight and small frame for easy handling. You can easily tuck this under your desk, next to your seat on the metro or bus, or into the taxi or your car at the end of the day. It is also easy to store in a small townhome with limited storage space. The features on folding bikes are more limited when compared to typical hybrid bikes but you can still have hand grip brakes and a ten speed shifter.

Standard Hybrids
Standard hybrid bicycles have the most features and are a nice blend between mountain bikes, road bikes, and comfort bikes. The frames are typically thicker than road bikes to handle added stresses from curbs, potholes, and cracks but thinner than mountain bikes to reduce the overall weight of the frame for nimble handling. Tires again are thicker than road bike tires but thinner and less knobby than mountain bike tires. Different types of tires can be purchased for different uses – you would want slender tires with a smooth surface for road riding or wider tires with ridges for packed trail riding. Most of the less expensive hybrids have solid front forks but some of the moderate and high end hybrids have front suspension forks to help dampen shock from damaged pavement.

Touring Bikes
Touring Bikes are the sportiest of the hybrid bicycles. While they have frames that are similar to standard hybrid bicycles, their components are more similar to those on road bikes. The tires are narrower and the handlebars are mounted lower for a more aerodynamic posture and better high speed stability. The seat is smaller and more lightweight as are most of the components.
Touring bikes are ideal for rapid commuters or for recreational users who use their bikes for fitness in addition to commuting. They are often used as a more comfortable alternative to road bikes at a lesser cost.

I hope that this guide on Hybrid biking has been helpful.

Hybrid Bike Commuting Choice Information

Many people, myself included, are stressed out more by their commute to work or school than their actual occupation. The average American spends countless hours each week driving to work whether in their own car, a carpool, bus, metro, or train usually congested with vehicles and people. If you live within 20 minutes of your place of work, I have a solution for you that will not only make you healthier, but transform your stress-filled commute to a stress busting workout.

If you have not figured it out by now, you should be biking to work. Take your 7 mile commute in rush hour traffic – you average 20 miles per hour because of bumper- to- bumper traffic and a 10 minute drive winds up taking almost a half hour. This can be incredibly frustrating especially when you calculate the cost for parking and gas while sitting gridlocked at an intersection. Instead, you could be pedaling steadily in the designated bike lane or shoulder and taking about the same amount of time to get to work. While your car-driving brethren are stuck trying to get around that pesky truck that is double parked in the curb lane, you carefully check your blind spots and ride right by while burning up to 700 calories per hour. Imagine that, you get your daily exercise needs while performing a regular daily task.

Hybrid bike commuting is ideal for urban and town settings where traffic is overwhelming and prohibitive. I have been an urban cyclist for almost ten years and have no regrets. It began when I was going to college in Washington DC and could not afford a car but I hated the amount of time it took to walk different places. I quickly rediscovered my childhood love of cycling and bought a new mountain bike. I took the bike to class, to work, or even to the grocery store and my trips took about 1/4 of the time because I was able to move so quickly through traffic. I still continue to bike regularly through the city, although now it is for fitness and leisure but I still get a kick out of being able to get from Chinatown to Georgetown in less than 20 minutes during rush hour while that may take over twice as long in a car. Just please remember to be safe and use proper safety equipment since automobiles generally are not on the lookout for cyclists. Here are a few tips on bicycle safety Hybrid bikes

Hybrid biking is ideal for commuting because they are typically more comfortable and have the best features from both mountain bikes and road bikes. There are different types of Hybrid bike ranging from the most comfortable cruiser, a vacation spot favorite, to the fast and agile touring bike. There are also recumbent and fold-up bikes for maximum convenience. For more information on different types of hybrid bikes available, you can check out Hybrid bikes

The best part is that you can also use your bike on the weekends to take a stroll through a park with friends or family or on your vacation. It can also be used for low impact fitness, without all of the wear and tear on your knees, legs, and back that can be caused by running or other fitness activities.
